Colorado:
Summer & Fall Seasons in the Saddle

Immerse yourself in the beauty of Colorado’s high country as you explore a network of over 22 trails, traversing through aspen groves, peaceful valleys, and past cascading waterfalls.

Rawah Ranch is nestled in the stunning mountains of Colorado in Glendevey. The word “Rawah” is derived from a Ute Native American term meaning ‘abundance” and the landscape lives up to the name, the Rawah Wilderness spans roughly 76,394 acres.

The story of Rawah Ranch began when the railroad companies set their ranch legacy in motion when President Theodore Roosevelt signed the deed of trust for the land Rawah Ranch occupies as part of a land acquisition. Soon after, the valley was added to what would eventually become the Roosevelt National Forest. With the passage of the Wilderness Act in 1964, the Rawah Wilderness Area was preserved indefinitely. Earlier, in 1948, a man by the name of Ralph Jordan had the great foresight to establish Rawah Ranch, not as a cattle ranch, but as a place for guests to simply visit – to stay in comfortable accommodations, enjoy hearty meals, and take in the beauty of the surrounding wilderness.

Today, Rawah Ranch seeks to capture the same original vision by welcoming guests from across the country and around the world to their magnificent historic mountain escape. Along with horseback riding, hiking & many other activies, they also offer fishing for Arctic Grayling.

Whether you're planning a family vacation, a romantic trip, or a solo adventure, consider exploring the beauty and magic of Rawah Ranch. Your experience through its rich history and stunning landscapes is waiting for you!

My recent visit to Rawah Ranch pleasantly surprised me with its elegance and charm.  From the moment I landed, I felt embraced by warmth and friendliness. Cassidy, my cheerful driver (and a lead wrangler), welcomed me with a smile and shared interesting tidbits about the area as we made our way to the ranch. The ease of airport transportation allowed me to unwind and appreciate the stunning landscapes around us,

Upon my arrival, the comforting smell of a home-cooked meal enveloped me. Dinner was a delightful family-style feast featuring savory homemade meatloaf, fluffy freshly baked rolls, and the showstopper—custom ice cream sundaes piled high with toppings! Sharing this meal with fellow guests instantly made me feel at home and part of a community.

Just a short golf cart ride away, I discovered the comfort of my beautiful cabin. The ranch provided thoughtful touches, like fresh coffee delivered to my door each morning. This simple gesture set a positive tone for my days, making the mornings even more enjoyable and serene.

Ride . Ride . Ride . . .

The wranglers, who guided our rides, were genuinely welcoming and full of stories about their lives. There was an undeniable bond between them and the horses they cared for, which translated into an incredibly safe and supportive riding experience. Their attentiveness made it easy for everyone to feel comfortable, whether we were seasoned riders or beginners.

Riding the well-trained and friendly horses was a highlight. Each ride was Fall at its finest -- brilliant aspens aglow against a deep blue sky, complete with glistening streams and waterfalls.

Try a personalized hiking adventure!

For those who didn’t ride, there were plenty of activities to choose from. Some guests tried their hand at fly fishing in the lake, while others took hikes to stunning waterfalls. There were fishing enthusiasts that loved the fishing, and the ranch also offers the unique opportunity to fish for Arctic Grayling and the best time to catch a Grayling is during their migration, which runs from the second week of June through the second week of July.

Evenings at the ranch were equally enchanting. The cozy fireplace sitting area was the perfect retreat for relaxing with a cocktail of your choice. As I settled in, it felt like home. Conversations flowed easily with fellow guests, who shared tales from their own adventures. This connection made the experience even more enriching.

One of my favorite nights involved hopping on a tractor that whisked us away to see our horses grazing in the pasture. It was joyful to give them treats and witness their excitement.

Three delicious, home-cooked meals are served each day, and they were truly exceptional, and included hot off-the-grill BBQ meals like Bison, corn on the cob, honey cornbread and more.  They do cater to all guests depending on whether they are vegan, gluten free, etc.   Fresh fruit, tempting baked treats and a selection of coffee & teas were always available, making it easy to enjoy a little nibble anytime.

The camaraderie among guests was heartwarming. Tim & Meg Dyer, the dedicated ranch managers, ensured everyone felt well cared for and happy. Their attentive nature made a significant impact on my experience, as they frequently checked in to see how we were enjoying our stay.

Reflecting on my solo trip to now my FAVORITE dude ranch, it's clear it was nothing short of mesmerizing. From the warm welcome at the airport to the delectable meals and thrilling escapades, each moment was filled with joy and excitement. If you’re thinking about a solo getaway, couples retreat, or a family vacation, I wholeheartedly recommend this ranch for its incredible hospitality and the chance to connect with nature and new friends.
