All your first-time dude ranch travel questions, answered.

Considering a Dude Ranch vacation? Here's what you need to know before your boots touch the ranch road.

How do I get to a Dude Ranch?

Most guests fly into the nearest regional airport and either rent a car or arrange a ranch shuttle for the final drive.  Many ranches are located a few hours from major cities like Denver, Tucson, Missoula, and the drive itself often becomes part of the experience.  Some guests prefer to drive the entire way from home, especially if they enjoy road trips.  Once you book your stay, the ranch will provide simple arrival instructions so getting there is easy.

Can Ranches pick me up from the airport?

Many guest ranches offer scheduled airport pickups or shuttle service. Others can recommend trusted transportation companies. Always check with the ranch before booking flights.

Do I need to rent a car?

Sometimes, but not always. Some ranches encourage renting a car, especially if the property is farther from the airport. Others make it easy by providing transportation directly to the ranch. When you book, the ranch will walk you through the easiest way to arrive.

How far is the drive from the airport?

Most ranches are between one & three hours from the nearest airport. The drive is often one of the most scenic parts of the trip.

What day do guests arrive?

Most guest ranches operate on either Sunday-to-Saturday or Sunday-to-Sunday schedules, with guests arriving Sunday afternoon and departing the following Saturday or Sunday morning. Please check with the ranch for their weekly start and stop dates.

Is it difficult to get there?

Not at all. Once flights are booked, the rest of the journey is usually straightforward — and the scenery makes the trip part of the adventure

What if I am traveling alone?

You wouldn’t be the only one. Many women arrive on their own and quickly feel part of the group. Ranches are naturally social places – meals are shared, rides are together and friendships tend to form quickly.

What should I wear on travel day?

Comfort first. Jeans, boots, a soft jacket, and a scarf for the transition from airport to ranch road. You’ll want to feel relaxed but still ready for that first photo when you arrive.

You're not the first to wonder -- every traveler does.  We've got the answers to the most common, first-time questions about visiting a Western Dude Ranch.
