For the Women Who Want to Be in the Saddle All Week

A note for experienced riders considering a Dude Ranch Week

Why We Go to Ranches in the First Place

Women who ride regularly don’t go to dude ranches to slow down. We go for new country — mountain trails we can’t access at home, long miles through open land, horses that know their jobs, and days shaped by rhythm rather than responsibility.

We go because ranches offer something rare:  excellent, well-trained horses, varied terrain and real miles , the chance to ride without stalls to muck, feeds to measure, or chores waiting at the end of your day

It’s a riding vacation — not a riding compromise.

Ride How You Want — That’s the Luxury

If you already ride — if you’ve spent years in the saddle — the last thing you want is being slowed down. If you want a more forward horse and a longer, more active ride, you simply say so. The wranglers know exactly how to make that happen.

Ride every day. Ride twice a day. Lope when the trail opens up.

Or sleep in one morning and linger over coffee.

There’s no pressure either way. That freedom — not restriction — is the luxury.

Some women will ride once a day and savor the afternoons. Others (like me) will look at the schedule and think, “Well… I might as well go again.”

Both are right. Both belong.

For the Women Who Like to Move

I’m not a beginner rider. I like a good trot. I like covering ground. I like coming back a little dusty and tired in the very best way.

And, you don’t have to prove anything. You don’t have to keep up with anyone. You don’t have to ride less.

You just ride.

Endless Terrain

Experienced riders can find themselves on challenging terrain at times.

The women who sign on for these adventures come to inhale beauty, polish skills and experience something they cannot in their everyday life.

Explore the vast terrain of Colorado’s Rawah Mountain Range in the company of kindred spirits while riding new mountains, meadows, canyons, and open space instead of the same arena or local loop.

Riders return each evening to the ranch where the home fires burn and cocktails, gourmet food and luxury cabins await.  Then, after a restful night, cowgirls mount up and venture out for another day on the scenic frontier.

Why Daily Riders Choose Dude Ranches

For women who already ride, a ranch week offers something different — and deeply satisfying:

• Specialized horsepower — responsive, well‑trained horses matched to experienced riders

• Western immersion — cookouts, campfires, and wide‑open days that feel like another world

• Camaraderie — time with women who understand what it means to love horses

• Room to challenge yourself — Advanced riders can participate in faster, longer, and more technically demanding rides, varied footing, and the chance to really ride

Essentially, it is a "horsemanship vacation" that combines their passion with breathtaking, new environments.

If You’ve Been Wondering…

If you’ve been quietly thinking:

“This sounds lovely… but will there be real riding?”

The answer is simple.

Yes. Absolutely yes.

If you want to be in the saddle all week, you can be. And chances are, I’ll be right there with you.
